After Table No. 21 (2013) and Samrat & Co. (2014), actor Rajeev Khandelwal's next role will be in Sanjiv Jaiswal's Pranaam which is due to be released on 9 August. Khandelwal plays an aspiring Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Ajay Singh, who through a twist of fate has to become a gangster.
The first poster of the film finds his character sitting with folded hands, his right hand sporting a rudraksh mala and handcuffs on his left hand. A gun and a copy of the IAS handbook sit on the side. The wordings on the poster give the feeling that Singh is a devil-may-care character who fights for himself and what's right.
Set in the heartland of India, the film features south actress Sameksha Singh opposite Khandelwal. Atul Kulkarni, Abhimanyu Singh, Vikram Gokhle and Aniruddh Dave are also part of the ensemble drama.
In a statement, director Jaiswal said, “I couldn’t have found a better actor than Rajeev who suited the character perfectly. His character starts with a naive middle class boy who wants to be an IAS officer and turns into a rugged gangster. He slipped into both the characters with ease and actors like Atul ji, Abhimanyu and Vikram ji have added the needed grit into the drama.”
Pranaam, produced by Anil Singh, Nitin Mishra and Rajnish Ram Puri's Rudraksh Adventures Pvt Ltd, will be released on 9 August.
