Actor and filmmaker Rakesh Roshan underwent a throat surgery yesterday in Mumbai. He was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, an early stage of throat cancer, a few weeks ago. His brother, and music composer, Rajesh Roshan confirmed that the surgery went well and that the filmmaker will be discharged soon.
“He (Rakesh Roshan) is better now and recovering well. We were all very tense about the surgery and the entire family was in the hospital with him. God willing, he will be up in the next three days and should be discharged from the hospital,” said Rajesh while talking to the daily Mumbai Mirror.
Rakesh’s condition came to light when son and actor Hrithik Roshan shared the information in a post on his Instagram page. He posted a positive message in the caption which read, “Asked my dad for a picture this morning. Knew he wouldn't miss gym on surgery day. He is probably the strongest man I know. Got diagnosed with early stage squamous cell carcinoma of the throat a few weeks ago, but he is in full spirits today as he proceeds to battle it. As a family, we are fortunate and blessed to have a leader like him.” [sic]
Later in the day, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his good wishes to the filmmaker by replying to Hrithik’s message on Twitter. “Dear Hrithik, praying for the good health of Shri Rakesh Roshan Ji. He is a fighter and I am sure he will face this challenge with utmost courage,” said Modi.
