"I'll run from you, but how will I run from myself?" questions Sushant Singh Rajput in the trailer of Abhishek Chaubey's Sonchiriya. The question sets up his character, and the equation amongst the dacoits, in Chaubey's film.
In an action-packed and intriguing trailer, the director gives a glimpse into the story of the legendary dacoits of the region set in the Emergency era.
The trailer begins with the sight of the dacoits fighting the cops, led by a menacing Ashutosh Rana, in a fierce shootout.
The trailer revolves around the dynamics of the different members of the team of dacoits. Surprisingly, Ranvir Shorey seems to be playing the leader. The actor is joined by Manoj Bajpayee's Dadda, who is the aged, wise head upon whom the team depends.
Rajput plays the idealistic young man whose decision to protect Bhumi Pednekar's character drives a wedge in the team. Perhaps this is the 'rebel' tagline that the film's earlier teaser hinted at.
The film is set in the Emergency era, which seems to be becoming a favourite with filmmakers.
The stark style of the trailer, and a menacing Rana, drive up the curiousity of the audience. The actor has been missing for a while, but this looks like a role offering him enough to chew on.
The film is set to be released on 8 February, and is produced by Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP.
