Considering no film with a political subtext ever escapes frivolous cases in India, The Accidental Prime Minister by Vijay Gutte seems to be on course. A case has now been filed against the cast and members of the film in a court in Bihar. The complaint alleges that the makers of the film have 'damaged' the image of some top leaders by their portrayal in the film.
The case was filed on Wednesday by lawyer Sudhir Kumar Ojha in Muzaffarpur's Chief Judicial Magistrate's court. The court has admitted the case, and fixed the hearing for 8 January 2019. The film is set to release in theatres on 11 January 2019.
In his complaint, Ojha alleged that Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna, who play the key roles of former prime minister Manmohan Singh and his advisor Sanjaya Baru, have damaged the image of the leaders. Speaking to IANS, he said, "It hurt me and many others."
Earlier in the day, Kher had tweeted about the trailer for the film being taken down from the YouTube channel. Kher was then seen in a video, as Manmohan Singh, exhorting viewers to go watch the film.
