For the first time, actor and producer Dev Adhikari is going to feature in a film along with the veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee. Directed by Leena Gangopadhyay and Saibal Banerjee, Sanjhbati will also feature Paoli Dam opposite Adhikari and Arpita Chatterjee in an important role.
Last year, the director duo made Maati with Dam and Adil Hussain under the banner of Atanu Roy Chowdhury’s production house. Family drama Sanjhbati will be produced by Roy Chowdhury’s new production house, Bengal Talkies.
The director duo stated that they were looking for opportunities to work with Adhikari for a long time; however, could not fit him in the kind of stories they usually tell. Sanjhbati talks about unusual love stories and relationships and Adhikari plays a character from the suburbs of Kolkata. He comes to the city and falls in love with Dam.
“This is a similar kind of family drama story that I usually prefer to tell through my films. The story demanded both Dev and Soumitra Da. I feel fortunate as a producer that I could bring both of them together on screen,” said Roy Chowdhury in an interview with Tollywood Online.
Chatterjee, on the other hand, agreed for three reasons to be part of the film. “First, it is Atanu da’s (Roy Chowdhury) first movie under his production house and I feel he understands the business of film very well. He knows what works with the audience and I have complete faith in him. Second, Leena di and Saibal da are very successful in television and can well understand what the audience wants to see. Their debut film, Maati, was well appreciated, so I am sure this film too will be good."
"And lastly, a cast where Soumitra Chatterjee, Dev, Paoli and I are there is something Tollywood has not seen. The cast is really out of the box. So I wanted to be part of this film before reading the script,” said Chatterjee in an interview with The Times of India.
