The Telugu film industry wants to cash in on biopics, thanks to the phenomenal success of Mahanati (2018), a film on the life of legendary southern actress Savitri. Following reports that a biopic on the life of late legendary Telugu star Akkineni Nageshwara Rao is in the offing, his son and actor Akkineni Nagarjuna finally opened up on the rumour that has been doing the round for quite some time.

In a recent media interaction, Nagarjuna shed some light on the matter and made it very clear that he or his family have no plans to make a biopic on his father.

“As a family, we’re even scared to remake some of his films. Therefore, making a biopic on his life is completely out of the question. We have no plans to make a film on my father’s life,” Nagarjuna said.

Last year, in another media interaction, Nagarjuna said that his father’s life would better work as a book than a film. “He led a very simple, beautiful, inspirational life, especially in his last few years. A biopic needs a more interesting story; it needs some downfall, which wasn’t there in my father’s life. Even on his last day, he said goodbye to his five kids before departing. What will we convey through his biopic — I don’t know. I personally feel that his story would work better as a book.”

Meanwhile, Nagarjuna is currently gearing up to commence work on a sequel to his popular film Manmadhudu (2002). He also has Dhanush’s next directorial project which is being made as a Tamil-Telugu bilingual.
