The Tamil remake of Pink (2016), which will be bankrolled by Boney Kapoor, was officially launched in a customary ceremony in December. The yet-untitled project will star Ajith Kumar, last seen in Pongal release Viswasam (2019), in the lead role.
Ajith will be reprising megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s role from the original and play a lawyer for the first time in his career. The film’s shooting recently commenced in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City.
The latest update is that actress Shraddha Srinath, best known for her performance in Kannada version of U-Turn (2016), has been signed to play Taapsee Pannu’s role. It has also been confirmed that Vidya Balan has been signed for a crucial role, making this her Tamil debut. Producer Boney Kapoor's statement said that she will be paired with Ajith in the film.
"It’s nice to introduce Vidya Balan to the Tamil audience. She is paired with AjithKumar and her role is a very special. Shraddha Srinath has been displaying plenty of promise and we are casting her in a pivotal role," he stated.
Not long ago, there were rumours that Kalyani Priyadarshan and Nazriya Nazim were being considered for Taapsee’s role. The film will also star Adhik Ravichandran and Rangaraj Pandey in crucial roles. The film, slated to release on 1 May 2019, is being directed by H Vinoth and will feature music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Popular lensman Nirav Shah has been roped in to crank the camera.
The project will mark Kapoor's foray into Tamil filmdom. Apparently, it was late Sridevi’s wish that Ajith does a film in her husband’s production. “While working with Ajith in English Vinglish (2012), Sridevi had expressed her desire that Ajith does a Tamil film for our home production. Nothing exciting came up till one day last year; Ajith suggested remaking Pink (2016) in Tamil. She immediately agreed as she thought it was most appropriate and timely film to make and Ajith would bring all the elements required to make it into a great Tamil film,” Kapoor added.
