Actor Salman Khan is gearing up once again for an Eid release with his next film, Bharat (2019).
The first teaser of the film, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, centred entirely around the main character, giving us no glimpse of the rest of the cast which includes Katrina Kaif, Disha Patani, Sunil Grover and Nora Fatehi.
The 86 second trailer begins at a train station where hundreds of people are trying to board. The scene is set in 1947 during Partition, and Bharat is shown as a young boy. Khan's voiceover intones that often people ask him his last name, caste and religion, to which he replies his father named him Bharat after the new country, and the name carries so much weight that it doesn't require anything else.
Khan's mysterious Bharat has many roles in the short teaser as a miner, a naval officer, and a circus stuntman. The last few seconds of the teaser also show an ageing Khan, fit as ever.
While the superstar dons many avatars in the period film, the visual effects in the circus stunt already seems underwhelming. The 53-year-old star looks out of place in the sequence. However, the other scenes teased in the video point to a larger picture which will only become clearer when the trailer is revealed later in the year.
Like the popular South Korean film, Ode To My Father (2014), which followed the history of the country from the 1950s to the 2010s, this adaptation will trace the journey of India from its birth to the present.
Bharat, produced by T-Series, Reel Life Production Pvt Ltd, and Salman Khan Films, is due to be released on Eid, 5 June, this year. Watch the teaser below.
