Even as Indian cricket prepares itself for the World Cup year, Kabir Khan's '83 is taking people down the nostalgia road. Punjabi actor-singer Ammy Virk is set to play the role of medium pacer Balwinder Singh Sandhu in the film.

While Ranveer Singh will play the role of Kapil Dev, and Tamil actor Jiiva said to be cast as Krish Srikkanth, Virk will take on the role of Sandhu, whose performance in the 1983 World Cup was one of the key elements of the championship victory.

Incidentally, Sandhu is also coaching Singh for his role in the film. The actor had shared an image of his batting session on Instagram earlier this month. Singh is reportedly performing all the bowling and batting actions himself in the film.

Sandhu was among the unexpected heroes of the 1983 World Cup win for India. His last wicket stand for 22 runs with Syed Kirmani in the final helped India put up a total worth defending. Sandhu returned to bowl out Gordon Greenidge, West Indies' in form opener, to ensure a great start to India's bowling session.

'83 is set to be released on 10 April 2020.
