The Tamil remake of Pink, produced by Boney Kapoor, was officially launched in a customary ceremony in December 2018. The yet-untitled project will star Ajith Kumar, last seen in Pongal release Viswasam (2019), in the lead role. On Monday, Ajith is believed to have joined the sets in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad, where most of the film will be shot. Playing a lawyer for the first time in his career, Ajith will be reprising Amitabh Bachchan’s role from the original Hindi film.
The project will mark Kapoor's first foray into Tamil cinema. Apparently, it was late Sridevi’s wish that Ajith does a film in her husband’s production.
“While working with Ajith in English Vinglish (2012), Sridevi had expressed her desire that Ajith does a Tamil film for our home production. Nothing exciting came up till one day last year; Ajith suggested remaking Pink (2016) in Tamil. She immediately agreed as she thought it was the most appropriate and timely film to make, and Ajith would bring all the elements required to make it into a great Tamil film,” Kapoor said in a statement.
The film will also feature Adhik Ravichandran and Rangaraj Pandey in crucial roles. The makers are yet to reveal who they’ve signed to play Taapsee Pannu’s role, but the industry grapevine suggests that Kalyani Priyadarshan might be the chosen one.
The film, slated to release on 1 May 2019, will be directed by H Vinoth and will feature music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Cinematographer Nirav Shah has been roped in to crank the camera. Boney Kapoor also confirmed another project with Ajith in the offing.
“We hope to bring the remake of Pink to theatres on 1 May 2019. We are subsequently doing another film together and that will be scheduled to go on the floors in July 2019 and will be released on the 10th April 2020,” he said.
