Dhappa trailer: This sweet looking film is no child's play

Children, they say, speak the truth. In Nipun Dharmadhikari's Dhappa, the kids are left to speak the truth to power as adults cower behind terms like tradition, society and politics. Written by Girish Pandurang Kulkarni, the film is directed by Dharmadhikari and will be released on 1 February 2019. 

The trailer captures the sweet nostalgia and mischiefs that often define childhood. From stealing custard apples to fighting on the way back from school, the children live a carefree life till the day they decide to set up a play on Ganeshotsav. Except that the play has Tukaram, Jesus Christ, and a lot of environmental crusading. 

"On Ganeshotsav, only Ganesh," threatens the goon of a political party after disrupting and threatening the kids. 

Except the kids decide to fight back. 

Dharmadikari delivered a wonderful film in Baapjanma (2017), and seems to have a natural instinct to capture human emotions. The trailer is sensitively cut, with the right dialogues capturing the absurdity of current politics that use religion as a tool to threaten. When questioned, the adults simply resort to the age-old habit of 'tradition'.
