After delivering the blockbuster Padmaavat in January 2018, actor Ranveer Singh is enjoying success of his first masala entertainer Simmba, which was released on 28 December 2018. The film, directed by Rohit Shetty, made a record Rs27.93 crore nett on its first Tuesday, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com.
The Hindi version of Baahubali had made Rs29.78 crore nett [enhanced ticket rates] on it first Tuesday. In Hindi cinema, the earlier record for highest first Tuesday collection was held by Salman Khan's Kick (2014) that collected Rs26.82 crore nett.
Simmba has so far bagged an impressive Rs124.68 crore nett in its first five days. Simmba had opened to Rs20.50 crore nett and improved over the weekend, collecting Rs23.75 crore and a huge Rs31 crore nett, respectively.
Despite Monday being a working day, Simmba continued its fine run, collecting Rs21.50 crore nett on 31 December and the Tuesday [1 January, a holiday for some] collection record only boosted the film further.
Simmba review: Perfect mass entertainer driven by Ranveer Singh’s high-energy act
As per sources, Simmba is made at an estimated budget of Rs120-125 crore (including prints and advertisements) and was released across 4,500 screens in India. Simmba is also said to have bagged around Rs75-80 crore through its satellite and digital rights [sold to Zee].
Simmba is co-produced by director Rohit Shetty, Dharma Productions and distributed by Reliance Entertainment. A remake of the Telugu film Temper (2015), Simmba is a revenge drama in which Singh plays the tainted cop Sangram Bhalerao who seeks revenge.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan stated that the numbers are impressive, especially on the non-holiday days.
Ranveer Singh says he would have been jealous if Gully Boy had gone to another actor
“The collection is extraordinary. Normally, Christmas, year-end is a period for Aamir Khan films to shine. If a Simmba is making Rs21 crore nett on 31 December, then it is pretty impressive. Usually, there is a drop in the 31 December collections as people celebrate New Year’s Eve. In 2017, we had Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai that did well on 31 December [Rs21.75 crore nett according to Boxofficeindia.com] but that was a Sunday," said trade analyst Mohan.
With no big release lined up in the first week of January, Simmba is likely to continue its good run.
