Om Raut, the director of the film Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior, shared the first look of his ambitious period film to celebrate the new year.
The first look shows Ajay Devgn, playing the title role of the warrior, zipping between two mountains with his army in tow. While Devgn's face is covered, you can recognise him from his trademark intense eyes.
Devgn plays Tanaji Malusare, the famed military leader in the Maratha Empire who fought alongside Maratha leader Shivaji Maharaj in various battles during the 17th century.
The action image seems like a snapshot from the historic battle of Sinhagad in 1670, where Tanaji and the Maratha army scaled the mountain against Udaybhan Rathod, a Rajput officer appointed by Mughal army chief Jai Singh I, who was controlling the fort.
Actor Saif Ali Khan will be seen in the role of Devgn's enemy, Udaybhan Rathod.
Kajol will make an appearance as Malusare's wife. Though the battle will be at the centre of the film, Raut will also shed some light on his lesser known personal life.
The shooting for the ambitious project began on 25 September 2018, and the film is slated to be released on 22 November 2019.
Raut has previously directed the Marathi film, Lokmanya: Ek Yug Purush (2015).
