Stories of fallen heroes bouncing back don't get old. The theme has been explored in Hindi cinema through films like Patiala House (2011) and Sultan (2016). Now it is Swapnil Joshi’s turn to rise after giving up on his dreams in first-time director Shreyas Jadhav’s Me Pan Sachin.
This is the story of Sachin (Joshi) who lives in a village in Maharashtra. He goes through his routine, mundane life. At one point, he played professional cricket and considered India cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar his idol. Sadly, a serious injury put an end to his career. He has no option but to accept his fate.
Sachin gets married to a girl (Kalyanee Mulay) from his village and becomes a father of two kids. His past starts flashing in front of his eyes when his son takes part in a cricket tournament at the taluka level.
Sachin once again picks up the bat to teach his son. He wants him to play at the Lord’s cricket stadium in London someday. Sachin’s return to cricket also brings him face-to-face with the evil Raja (Abhijit Khandkekar).
The story of Me Pan Sachin appears like a mishmash of many Hindi film stories; there are apparent similarities with Patiala House (2011) and Dangal (2016). The film seems to be high on entertainment nevertheless.
Joshi is enthusiastic and masters the rural Marathi accent. It would also be interesting to see Mulay after the highly acclaimed Nude (2018).
Me Pan Sachin will be released on 1 February.
