Bhaai — Vyakti Kee Valli Part 2 trailer: Here come PL Deshpande's creative struggles

An artiste and multi-faceted personality of PL Deshpande's caliber is never easily captured in one film. Mahesh Manjrekar's second part of the biopic, Bhaai — Vyakti Kee Valli Uttardha [Part 2], will see the story progress further as audiences follow the success of PL Deshpande, and his venture into theatre, cinema and later, activism. 

The first film, which was released on 4 January, saw the story pick up the thread of Deshpande's rise from a maverick child into a talented and successful writer. The trailer to the second part suggests that it will carry on to offer insight into his successful forays into multiple fields of theatre, stand-up and cinema.

The trailer begins with a wonderful clip of the interaction of the author with one of his more beloved characters, Sakharam Gatne. The film will also delve into some of the great author's stand-up performances on stage. A pioneer, Deshpande created a new form of comic performance skits long before the word stand-up came into existence. 

The trailer also offers an insight into his struggle with the artistic block. While he was a prolific writer, he also struggled with the balance between his creative and commercial success. The sight of Deshpande, played by Sagar Deshmukh, struggling with it is one instance. 

The role of the older version of the character will be played by theatre veteran and film actor Vijay Kenkre.

Like the first part, Manjrekar's film will also bring in several prominent names of Marathi literature and politics. The trailer brings famed social activist Baba Amte, whom the author assisted through his speeches and public appearances. These appearances also put him in direct opposition of several violent elements who opposed his openly liberal stance.

In all, Manjrekar's film seeks to shed some light on the many facets of the personality that was Marathi literature's Renaissance Man. However, the trailer is fairly simple and lacks the drama and novelty that the first part had. 

Bhaai — Vyakti Kee Valli Part 2 will be in theatres on 8 February.
