Director Sameer Vidwans’s Anandi Gopal tells the story of Anandi Gopal Joshi, who is considered India’s first female doctor. The teaser of the film indicated that the film’s main protagonist is her husband Gopal Joshi, played by Lalit Prabhakar.
The song from the film ‘Ranga Maliyela’ not only shows the important event of Anandi’s marriage with Gopal, but also a few other events from the story.
Joshi married Anandi, a child bride, after his first wife passed away. The girl’s parents are shown to be hesitant initially for the alliance because of Gopal's rebellious nature, but they eventually agree.
Gopal's only demand is that Anandi should get an education after marriage. He is so adamant on this condition that he drops her back to her parents' house for not taking studies seriously. Taking small steps, she eventually becomes a doctor. The scene in which Anandi goes out wearing socks and school shoes with her traditional attire is a symbol of a silent revolution.
The song is a traditional Marathi track sung during marriages. Vaibhav Joshi’s lyrics and composers Hrishikesh, Saurabh and Jasraj’s tune succeed in taking us back to the 19th century era. Actress Ketaki Mategaonkar's singing is soothing and she gets noteworthy support from Sharayu Date.
Some detailed production design is seen in this song too. All these elements add to the expectations from this period film.
Anandi Gopal will be released on 15 February.
