Uri: The Surgical Strike is well on its way to emerging as the first hit of 2019. The Vicky Kaushal-starrer action film raked in an impressive Rs9 crore nett on its first Tuesday, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com.
Uri's first Monday collection was Rs10.25 crore nett, but 14 January was a holiday in certain parts of India on account of the Makar Sankranti festival. Pongal festival has commenced from 15 January in south India, but there was no holiday on Tuesday in the Hindi belt.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Uri: The Surgical Strike has crossed Rs50 crore nett in five days. The film, produced by Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP, has so far made Rs54.50 crore nett.

Made at an estimated budget fo Rs25 crore nett, Uri was released in 2,200 screens in India. As per trade sources, Uri has fetched Rs14 crore through a combined satellite and digital rights deal and Rs2 crore for music rights [all sold to Zee].
Uri has already proved to be Kaushal’s most successful film as a solo lead. The film is based on Indian Army’s 2016 surgical strike in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation against the terror strike in Uri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
While Uri has continued to grow strong, Anupam Kher-starrer The Accidental Prime Minister is struggling to make an impact. The film made Rs1.50 crore nett on its first Tuesday, to take its India business so far to Rs15.50 crore nett.
Produced by Pen India Ltd and Bohra Bros, The Accidental Prime Minister was made at an estimated budget of Rs30 crore and it was released across 1,200 screens in India. The film is based on Sanjaya Baru's book of the same name. Baru was the media advisor to former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Akshaye Khanna plays the role of Baru in the film.
Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh-starrer Simmba collected around Rs2.25 crore nett, to take its India total so far Rs229 crore nett.

A host of films will be released this Friday (18 January) and prominent among them will be Emraan Hashmi’s Why Cheat India. It will be interesting to see how Uri fares in its second weekend.
