Mahesh Manjrekar’s Bhaai: Vyakti Ki Valli, the biopic on the legendary writer Pu La Deshpande, is being released in two parts. Starring Sagar Deshmukh and Iravati Harshe, the first film was released on 4 January to a positive response. The second one will hit the theatres on 8 February.

During the trailer launch of the second part, Manjrekar expressed his wish to release both the parts together. “Sometime in the future I want to experiment by releasing both parts together with two intervals. Not for any commercial reason, but just to try. But these days the process of the multiplex timings is also different. We need to keep in mind how much they will charge to provide us a screen for four hours,” he said.

To this, Ajit Andhare, COO of Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, pointed out that they had tried this with their much acclaimed Hindi film Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012). “After people liked it and it became a cult film, we exhibited both the films for five hours with two intervals in America. Let’s see how we can do it here [with Bhaai],” he said.

During the trailer launch of the first film, Manjrekar had said that the decision of releasing the film in two parts was taken after the shoot got over. The film looks at the entire lifespan of Deshpande. The role of the older version of the character will be played by theatre veteran and film actor Vijay Kenkre.
