Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and actor-director Farhan Akhtar will come together again for a boxing film, titled Toofan.
The duo had created the iconic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) when they collaborated for the first time. The biopic on India’s champion runner Milkha Singh was appreciated by the critics, as well as the audience.
This time Akhtar is also producing the film under his and Ritesh Sidhwani’s banner Excel Entertainment, along with Mehra’s ROMP [Rakeysh Omprakash Motion Pictures]. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was not produced by Akhtar.
An official statement from the makers threw more light on the film. "The film is not a biopic. It is a fictional story scripted by Anjum Rajabali. Farhan fell in love with it as soon as he heard it. Rakeysh has already started with the prep and Farhan will be training extensively in boxing," said the statement.
The rest of the cast and other details are not out yet. Being a film on a boxer, it is a given that Akhtar will have to undergo some intense physical training and take up lessons in the sport. He underwent similar preparations for his role in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
After Mirzya (2016), Mehra directed Mere Pyare Prime Minister, which featured Anjali Patil and Makarand Deshpande. The film will be released this year.
Toofan will be Akhtar’s return to the screen as an actor after director Ranjit Tiwari’s Lucknow Central (2017). He played the lead actor in the film about jail break.
