Kala Shah Kala is a romantic comedy with a social message

‘Kala Shah Kala’ is a traditional Punjabi song sung mostly at weddings. This is now also the title of writer-director Amarjit Singh’s Punjabi film.

Starring Sargun Mehta, Binnu Dhillon and Jordan Sandhu, Kala Shah Kala is a romantic comedy. The film is backed by Zee Studios and produced under the banners of Naughty Men Productions, Infantry Pictures and Dreamityata Entertainment.

This is the first time Dhillon is working with Mehta.

The film has a social message which relates to the Indian obsession with looks.

“In our society so much emphasis is put on looks, whether it’s a boy or a girl, that sometimes we neglect to see what really matters," Dhillon said in an official statement. "This is the story that a lot of people will relate to. It’s the story of an underdog.” 

He is happy to see Zee backing Punjabi films too. “This is my first association with Zee Studios. It’s great to see that mainstream studios see value in Punjabi films now. It’s good for the growth of our industry,” Dhillon said.

The actor has also featured in Hindi films like DevD (2009) and Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se (2018).

Kala Shah Kala will be released on Valentine’s Day, 14 February.
