Last year, actress Jacqueline Fernandes and director Ahmed Khan had come in for a lot of flak for the remake of the popular 'Ek Do Teen' song from N Chandra's Tezaab (1988) for the Tiger Shroff-starrer Baaghi 2 (2018).
'Ek Do Teen' was the iconic dance number that had changed the trajectory of Madhuri Dixit's career 30 years ago.
When the controversy raged last year, Madhuri Dixit did not comment on it. So the veteran actress, who will be seen next in Indra Kumar’s Total Dhamaal (2019), was asked for her views on the subject when she met reporters for the film's promotion.
“Well, it was cute," she offered diplomatically. "I love Jacqueline Fernandez, so whatever she does is great for me!”
Dixit was asked what she made of the new song and its choreography? She did not have any criticism about it, but neither did she sound convinced.
“The song was different," she said. "They gave it their own twist but also kept a little bit of the original.”
The Total Dhamaal (2019) actress was finally put on the spot with a straight question whether she liked the song.
"Yeah, it was sweet," she said.
Initially, Saroj Khan, choreographer of the original song, and Tezaab director Chandra were said to be critical of the remake. Chandra was even quoted in a report on a news website calling the song crass.
Speaking to Cinestaan.com, however, the director denied having made such a statement. On the contrary, he said, he found the remake good.
Meanwhile, in March last year, Madhuri Dixit had turned to production, announcing her maiden project, a Marathi film titled 15 August. Today, she disclosed that the film will be released on the OTT platform Netflix.
Commenting on her first production, Dixit said, “That was a wonderful experience for me. [To be] behind the scenes, to create something from scratch and [see it] actually come on screen, it is a great journey. The film will come out on Netflix by March-end.”
Dixit and husband Dr Shriram Nene have launched their own banner called RnM Moving Pictures Pvt Ltd. Adinath Kothare and Mrunmayee Deshpande lead the cast of 15 August.
