Producer Shailesh R Singh has denied that the release date of Mental Hai Kya has been changed. Buzz had it that Mental Hai Kya, starring Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao, which was supposed to be released on 29 March, has now been pushed to May 2019. Mental Hai Kya is produced by Balaji Telefilms and Singh.
According to the tabloid Mid-day, this has been done at the request of Ranaut as the actress felt that the film was coming too close on the heels of her previous film, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019) that is still running in theatres.
A source close to the actress informed, "Kangana made a suggestion as she felt that there ought to be a gap between the two films. Also, it looks difficult that the film would be ready by 29 March. There is some patchwork to be shot, the dubbing hasn’t happened yet."
A source from the film’s unit said, “I don’t know when the film is going to be released, but there is some patchwork remaining. So, far there is no news from the producers.”
When contacted, producer Singh told Cinestaan.com, "There's nothing yet [change in the release date]. If there is one then I will let you know once it is decided." When we asked Singh if the film will come out on its scheduled date, Singh merely said, "yes".
It may be recalled that Mental Hai Kya was earlier slated to be released on 22 February, but the producers Balaji Motion Pictures and Singh had changed the release date as it would have come one week after Ranveer Singh’s Gully Boy.
Apart from Ranaut and Rajkummar, Manikarnika also stars Amyra Dastur and Jimmy Shergill.
By releasing the film on 29 March, Mental Hai Kya would have faced the same issue as it did with the earlier release date. The film, directed by Prakash Kovelamudi, would have come a week after Dharma Productions' period film Kesari, which features Akshay Kumar.
