Pakistani great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s 'Tere Bin Nahi Lagda' has seen different versions in India. The forthcoming film Notebook has a song 'Nai Lagda', which is, thankfully, not a remake but only has a similar title. The film is being produced by Salman Khan and stars Zaheer Iqbal and Pranutan Bahl.
Lyricist Akshay Tripathi creates his own lyrics, but the essence remains the same: without you, I don’t feel good.
'Nai Lagda' scores on its music and the singing. The fine mix of Western and classical instruments has a mesmerizing effect.
Composer Vishal Mishra also doubles up as the singer. He has the requisite depth in his voice for such a song and is brilliant in the antara lyrics. Asees Kaur is credited as the co-singer, but we don’t hear her voice in this music video. We will have to wait for the full audio track.
A pleasant soft romantic number requires merely emotions. Zaheer looks the part as the disconsolate lover, while Bahl has a wonderful screen presence.
Nothing can beat Khan’s 'Tere Bin Nahi Lagda', but Vishal Mishra’s 'Nai Lagda' has a strong appeal of its own.
Notebook will be released on 29 March. Watch the 'Nai Lagda' song and the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan number.
