Box office: Total Dhamaal bags Rs16.25 crore nett on a good opening day

Fox Star Studios' Total Dhamaal had an impressive opening at the box office yesterday.
The Indra Kumar-directed madcap comedy bagged Rs16.25 crore nett on opening day, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
Total Dhamaal has now posted the second highest opening of 2018 after Gully Boy, which fetched Rs19.26 crore nett.
Directed by Indra Kumar, Total Dhamaal is the third film in the Dhamaal franchise. Made on an estimated budget of Rs105 crore, the film has been released on 3,700 screens across India and 786 screens in overseas markets.
This is arguably the biggest opening for the franchise. Dhamaal (2007) and Double Dhamaal (2011) had opened to Rs2.38 crore nett and Rs7.56 crore nett, respectively.
The two earlier films had been released on 800 and 1,800 screens in India, respectively. Made on an estimated budget of Rs19 crore, Dhamaal had earned Rs32.51 crore nett in domestic business. Double Dhamaal, made on a budget of Rs29 crore, earned Rs45.05 crore nett in India business.
Director Indra Kumar has now scored a personal high as Total Dhamaal is the biggest opening for any film directed by him. The multi-starrer features Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Jaaved Jaaferi and Arshad Warsi.
Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh's Gully Boy had an average second Friday where it bagged just Rs3.75 crore nett. The film has now grossed Rs102.75 crore nett at the domestic box office so far.
The Excel Entertainment film was made on an estimated budget of Rs75 crore, with the film being released on 4,000 screens in India. Excel Entertainment has sold the combined satellite, digital and music rights for Rs60 crore to Zee.
