Following their successful collaboration in films such as Ayan (2009) and Maattrraan (2012), actor Suriya and filmmaker KV Anand have joined hands for third time for an action-thriller, titled Kaappaan. The makers had unveiled the title and two posters on the occasion of New Year.
The film’s title, which means to save or protect, is a clear indication that Suriya essays the rumoured role of a bodyguard or commando on a mission to save Mohanlal, who plays the prime minister.
On Wednesday, Anand took to Twitter to announce that Mohanlal has completed shooting his portion for the film.
He also shared a picture and wrote: “It’s a wrap for Mohanlal sir. Great actor. Simply behaved the character.”
Kaappaan has been shot in nearly 10 countries, including places like New York, Brazil, England, Hyderabad and New Delhi.
The film, being made on a lavish budget, is touted to be the costliest project in Suriya’s career. Anand had recently revealed that the last schedule of the project is currently underway.
The film, produced by Lyca Productions, also stars Arya, Sayyeshaa Saigal, Boman Irani and Samuthirakani in key roles. Arya, who will be seen sharing the screen space with Suriya for the first time, is rumoured to be playing the antagonist. The film has music by Harris Jayaraj.
If everything goes as planned, Kaappaan is likely to hit the screens during the Independence Day weekend. The film will be Suriya’s second release of the year after NGK, which is gearing up for late May release.
