Kickboxer-turned-actress Ritika Singh, who made her acting debut with R Madhavan-starrer Saala Khadoos (2016), will be seen next playing a sports journalist in upcoming Tamil action film Boxer, starring Arun Vijay in the lead.
The first look poster of Boxer was unveiled last November. In the film, to be directed by Vivek, Arun is said to be playing a boxer and he’s been undergoing aggressive physical training over the last few months in preparation for the role.
On Tuesday, the makers revealed that Singh has been signed to play the leading lady.
Speaking to The Times of India, Vivek said: “Ritika plays a sports journalist who aspires to become a boxer. I wanted someone who knows the sport and can act well. Ritika is a mix of both. Her role is an important one. In fact, after I roped her in, I added several layers to her character based on her real-life skills. When she heard the script, she was very excited.”
Vivek went on to add that she isn’t another run-of-the-mill heroine, but a character that adds soul to the film. The rest of the cast and crew will be revealed soon.
If everything goes as planned, the makers plan to go on the floors from March.
In a recent media interaction, actor Arun said that he’s waiting to complete a day of pending work on Prabhas’s Saaho before he could go on to his other assignments.
“I’m currently maintaining a look which is for my role in Saaho. I still have a day of shoot left. It’s mostly patchwork and I’m waiting to complete my portion to commence work on other films. Shoot for Saaho should happen this month or in March,” he said.
