The trailer for National award-winning director Aruna Raje's film Firebrand depicts the complexities of modern-day gender roles and relationships.
The story follows Usha Jadhav, a divorce lawyer, whose quick success in the family court begins to draw judgement from her colleagues, especially the men.
As a Dalit rape survivor, Jadhav's character has to navigate the issues in her own marriage even as she takes on the divorce case of an affluent couple, played by Rajeshwari Sachdev and Sachin Khedekar. Girish Kulkarni essays the role of Jadhav's husband.
While the trailer puts forth an important subject and an interesting plot, the conversations feel a bit too in-your-face. The trailer could have easily done with fewer dialogues on male-female relationships and better dubbing. Say less, show more!
With a good cast and a National award-winning filmmaker helming it though, we hope there will be lots of food for thought in this one.
Produced by Priyanka Chopra's Purple Pebble Pictures, Firebrand will be the first Marathi Netflix original, and will be released on the platform on 22 February. Watch the trailer below:
