With two weeks to go for the release of Sandip Ray’s upcoming film Professor Shonku O El Dorado (2019), the director already announced his next project, based on his father, Satyajit Ray’s story Ek Sringo Obhijaan, from Professor Shonku series. Needless to say, veteran actor Dhritiman Chatterjee will reprise the role of Shonku in the film.

Professor Shonku O El Dorado, which is slated for release on this Christmas, is based on Ray’s story Nakur Babu O El Dorado. In the film, Subhasish Mukhopadhyay will be seen in the avatar of Nakur Babu, a clairvoyant. Nakur Babu suddenly lands up at Shonku’s laboratory in Giridih and speaks of some impending dangers at a fictional place called El Dorado in Sau Paulo, Brazil.

"I am willing to make more films on Baba’s stories on Professor Shonku. The problem is that the stories are not long enough to be made into feature films. Ek Sringo Obhijaan is the only story that can be adapted for a full-length feature film," the director stated in an interview with Bartaman, a Bengali newspaper.

The director, however, made it clear that whether he will make the film or not, will entirely depend on the success of Professor Shonku O El Dorado. He has also started considering other short stories, in this regard.

In case, he is unable to make Ek Sringo Obhijan, he will attempt to make Double Shonku, following the path of Double Feldua, with adapting two short Shonku stories in a single film.

"This idea seems more convincing since I do not really want to stretch Baba’s stories unnecessarily," Ray added.
