Marathi film star Subodh Bhave turned director with the musical Katyar Kaljat Ghusali (2015), which received critical as well as commercial success. He has now turned presenter for director Nitin Supekar’s Aatpadi Nights.
Going by the teaser, the film is a light-hearted drama revolving around Vasant Bapusaheb Khatmode (Pranav Raorane). the boy-next-door in a village in Maharashtra who likes to have fun with his friends. The problem is that he gets strange reactions from people because of his wiry frame.
One astrologer predicts that Vasant will soon be married. The prophecy gets a boost when a beautiful girl (Sayali Sanjeev) turns his ordinary life colourful. But, like in every story, there are obstacles in Vasant’s path.
The teaser is good enough to make you hopeful about the film. The comic timing of the artistes, including the supporting cast, is a major reason for this optimism. We have seen films about people being fat-shamed. It’s refreshing to see a film based on the stigma faced by thin people, even if in a humorous way.
Aatpadi Nights is Supekar’s directorial debut. He has been associated as a writer previously with films like Bahiru Pehlwan Ki Jai Ho (2010), Well Done Bhalya (2016) and Bhay (2018).
Aatpadi Nights is slated for release on 27 December. Watch the teaser below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
