Shahid Kapoor is collaborating with father Pankaj Kapur once again for the upcoming Hindi remake of the Telugu hit Jersey (2019). The duo last worked together on Vikas Bahl’s Shaandaar (2015) where Kapur played father to Alia Bhatt. They first worked together in Kapur’s directorial debut Mausam (2011).
Kapur will essay the role of mentor to Kapoor who plays a former cricketer who decides to give his sporting career another go for his young son. “Jersey is a strong story driven by emotions. Working with Shahid has always been interesting. I admire his ability to portray emotions beautifully,” Kapur told the daily Mumbai Mirror.
Gowtam Tinnanauri who helmed the Telugu version, is also on board the Hindi remake. The director said, “Pankaj sir is such a great actor. We have all grown up watching his work. To be able to direct him is a great honour and I know that he fits the role of a mentor perfectly.”
Actress Mrunal Thakur will play Kapoor’s wife in the film set during the 1990s. The film’s shoot is expected to begin filming next week in Chandigarh. The Hindi remake is due to be released on 28 August 2020.
