Neerraj Pathak to make biopic on late mathematician Vashistha Narayan Singh

The project will be backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment.

Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment will back Neerraj Pathak's next biopic on late mathematician, Vashishtha Narayan Singh. The mathematician passed away recently on 14 November 2019. The confirmation was made by trade analyst Taran Adarsh on his social media page.

Pathak launched the film at the Maurya Hotel in Patna with the family of the late mathematician in attendance. The director last helmed the Sunny Deol-led Bhaiaji Superhit (2018)

Born on 2 April 1946, Vashishtha Narayan Singh was a child prodigy in mathematics. He pursued the subject in his BSc Honours from Patna Science College, before getting an MSc in the same field.

He also went abroad to receive a PhD from the University of California in Berkeley, and later taught at the University of Washington, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, IIT Kanpur, and the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

However, Singh was also diagnosed with schizophrenia in the 1970s, forcing him to lead a life constantly plagued with troubles. He was constantly under medical supervision post a breakdown in 1989, when he went missing. He was found four years later, but continued to be under treatment till his last days.

The cast for the film has not yet been announced or revealed.
