Shimla Mirchi song 'Mirch Shimle Di': Rajkummar Rao, Rakul Preet Singh are the only bright spots in an ordinary number

Composed by Meet Bros and Anjjan Bhattacharya, the song has also been sung by the composers.

Shimla Mirchi (2020) is turning out to be the quirky film that might be lost in the New Year's early rushes. If viewers had any hopes from the music album of the film, they might just have been optimistic. The first song from the film, 'Mirch Shimle Di', is a fairly typical dance number that lacks the punch or energy to keep you going through the new year.

Composed by Meet Bros and Anjjan Bhattacharya, the song is set to a house party, probably New Year's, with Rajkummar Rao, Rakul Preet Singh and Hema Malini in attendance. From the moment Shakti Kapoor's uncle decides to open the song with an alaap, the song feels dated. While the composition is fairly okay, it is tepid and does not rise beyond a set template. The choreography is ordinary, with Rajkummar Rao and Rakul Preet Singh being the only people to bring some semblance of a performance to it.

Hema Malini and Kanwaljit Singh as well as Shakti Kapoor feel out of place in the visuals. Meet Bros add a heavy rhythm percussion to lay the foundation for the composition, but the vocals and the lyrics do not help the composition progress any further. Singers Khushboo Grewal, Sanjay Mishra and the composers are fairly average, with the lyrics even ordinary. With its typical party mix, one might as well give this a miss.

Shimla Mirchi is directed by Ramesh Sippy and is set to be released on 3 January 2020. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
