The composers keep messing around with a good thing, with Yash Narvekar, Rishi Rich, Kiranee and Shubham Shirole joining hands this time.

The last song release of the year definitely follows the trend of those that followed. Bhangra Paa Le's latest song 'Ho Ja Rangeela Re' is a chip off the old block with an updated take on the AR Rahman classic from Rangeela (1995). The song is sung by Shashwat Singh, with Rishi Rich, Yash Narvekar, Kiranee and Shubham Shirole working on the composition.

The song is set to the backdrop of a dance competition in the United Kingdom. One wonders if there are not enough dance competitions in India, but there it is. With Sunny Kaushal and Rukhsar Dhillon playing the students participating in the showing of skills. As is evident in the title, the bhangra is a key element in every performance. As Kaushal and Dhillon take to the stage, there is a new updated version of the famed Urmila Matondkar song that plays out.

The composition begins with the signature rhythm that defined the AR Rahman composition from the 1990s, before shifting into a more techno-Punjabi rhythm that captures the mood of the current age. Narvekar does well to keep up, and adds a layer of newness to the composition.

The composition itself feels more like a medley than a reprise or a remix. With new layers, and additions, the signature call-back remains the 'Ho Ja Rangeela Re' version sung by Asha Bhosle. However, the rest of the track feels a little underwhelming in its energy, pace and rhythm. The choreography of the song also goes a little offtrack to the unfolding rhythm, making it an odd watch.

Bhangra Paa Le is directed by Sneha Taurani, and is set to release in theatres on 3 January 2020. Watch the new song and the original below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
