Saie Manjrekar will make her big screen debut with Dabangg 3 where she has been cast opposite Salman Khan. Apart from getting a chance to feature alongside a big star in her first film, there is another reason her launch is special.
Her real-life parents Mahesh Manjrekar and Medha Manjrekar will also be playing her on-screen parents in Dabangg 3.
“The scene that I have with my father also features my mother, which makes it special. While shooting for it, I was bubbling with excitement. I was on set with my parents, working on a scene featuring all three of us. I couldn’t have asked for anything better in my debut film,” she said in an official statement.
We have seen Sunil Dutt playing Sanjay Dutt’s father in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S (2003) and Amitabh Bachchan playing Abhishek Bachchan’s on-screen father in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006). But examples of both parents playing an actor or actress’ on-screen parents are rare.
The only recent instance that comes to our minds is Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor playing Ranbir Kapoor’s foster parents in Besharam (2012). But Saie’s instance is rarer since it has happened in her debut film.
Mahesh Manjrekar had played Sonakshi Sinha’s father in Dabangg (2010), the first film in the franchise. Interestingly, his character from the first film Haria will be reprised in the third film, as per an official note by the film’s publicist.
Directed by Prabhu Deva, Dabangg 3 will be released on 20 December.
