When Rajkummar Rao shot for the film, Queen (2014) was set to release. Now, Ramesh Sippy's film is set to release almost six years after the shooting began on the project. Featuring Rao, Rakul Preet Singh, and Hema Malini, the film is now scheduled for a release on 3 January 2020. The film's trailer captures a comedy of errors with the romance between Rao and Rakul Preet Singh turning into a triangle when Hema Malini steps in.
The trailer begins with Rajkummar Rao's Avi, a shy, failing romantic who keeps trying to express his love but is brought down by the inability to string two complete sentences together. So when he falls for Rakul Preet Singh, he decides to go with the other best option at hand - letters. But every well-laid plan goes wrong, and this one goes right into the hands of the girl's mother, played by Hema Malini. Or is she simply helping the couple out?
From the looks of it, the trailer looks dated, and does not show signs of having aged well. While Rao still looks sincere, the same cannot be said for the rest of the cast. Rakul Preet Singh looks quite amateurish in the trailer, while Hema Malini is as over the top as they come. The humour does not click, despite the film banking heavily on it. It remains to be seen if the film does indeed pull a surprise.
The film began shooting in 2014, with director Ramesh Sippy heading the team. However, after delays, and almost being shelved, the film has finally hit a release date on 3 January 2020.
