Amitabh Bachchan couldn’t attend the National awards ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday because of bad health. The legendary actor was to be given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema.
But it has now been decided that he will be presented with the award on Sunday, 29 December, instead at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The announcement was made yesterday by the information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar.
The news was shared by Prasar Bharti News Service on their official Twitter page while quoting Javadekar. “Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be given to Amitabh Bachchan at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 29 December because he was not able to reach today due to being unwell: Prakash Javadekar, I&B minister,” said the tweet.
For the uninitiated, there have been quite a few awards named and given after the name of Dadasaheb Phalke since last few years. But the one given by the government of India, which Bachchan will be receiving, is the only prestigious one.
