In the age of sequels, it is now the turn of director Priyadarshan’s comedy Hungama (2003) to become a franchise after more than a decade and a half of its release.
The announcement was made on Twitter by Paresh Rawal, who played an important role in the 2003 movie. “Ready for Confusion Unlimited? Priyadarshan & Ratan Jain return with reboot of everyone's favorite comedy entertainer Hungama 2 Produced by Ratan Jain, Hungama2 will release on 14 Aug,” he wrote.
The veteran actor also shared the poster of the film which makes it clear that this is a new story altogether where apart from Rawal no other actor is retained from the first film. Hungama 2 has a fresh line-up which includes Shilpa Shetty, Meezaan Jaaferi and Pranitha Subhash.
Hungama also starred Akshaye Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani and Rimi Sen along with the host of actors like Rajpal Yadav, Shoma Anand, Shakti Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, Tiku Talsania, Asrani and more. The film was about various confusions born out of lies. It was also a love triangle between Khanna, Shivdasani and Sen’s characters. The poster of Hungama 2, on the other hand, reveals that it will explore the story of two couples.
This is Jaaferi’s second film after his debut Malaal (2019), which released earlier this year. Pranitha has already acted in a number of films down south. This will be her second Hindi film after Bhuj: The Pride Of India. Interestingly, that film is also slated to release on 14 August. It will be a rare case of an actress having two big releases on the same day, unless any of the two films don’t get rescheduled.
