The song 'Tomay Mone Porchilo' from Atanu Ghosh’s upcoming film Robibaar (2019) is a soothing ballad, composed and written by Debajyoti Mishra. Sung by Rupankar Bagchi, 'Tomay Mone Porchilo' is not a particular song sequence, rather it plays in the background as the two protagonists Asimabha (Prosenjit Chatterjee) and Sayani (Jaya Ahsan) delve into their psyche, to understand the dynamics of an estranged relationship.
In Robibaar, Asimabhaba and Sayani happen to meet each other on a Sunday (Robibar) after 15 years of a bitter separation. The film records the journey of the two of a single day, when they introspect how far they have come in their respective lives and also recall old memories.
The song mentions Ustad Ali Akbar Khan as a memento of their nostalgic trip. It is clear that both music and the artiste played a great part in their shared memories.
The composition is relatively simple and Bagchi’s rendition is spontaneous. The visuals focus more on the transience of the moments shared by the two. Both of them can be seen as observing and contemplating the situation unfolding around them, rather than reacting. They also suggest that, along with depicting an unpredictable progress of events on a single day, the narrative also attempts to peel the layers of psychological turmoil in the two characters.
The no makeup look of Ahsan, the composition of real-life situations in the visuals, add to the song that has a common tune.
Robibaar is slated for release on 27 December. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
