The first look of Ishaan Khatter and Tabu from Mira Nair's upcoming television series A Suitable Boy is out. Shared by the actor on social media, the picture captures the two characters relaxing in the foreground of a lavish villa courtyard.
The series, adapted from Vikram Seth's bestselling novel of the same name, will also feature Rasika Dugal, Vijay Varma, Vivaan Shah and Shefali Shah, among others. The series is being directed by Mira Nair, based on a screenplay by Andrew Davies.
Set in the post-Partition era, the series is backed by the British Broadcasting Corporation and will be released in six hour-long episodes. The story follows the journey of Lata as her mother tries to find a suitable boy to get her married to.
Khatter plays Maan Kapoor, a relative of Lata, while Tabu reportedly plays the courtesan Saeeda Bai. The role of Lata will be essayed by actress Tanya Maniktala.
A Suitable Boy, executive produced by Davies, Nair and Vikram Seth, will be aired on BBC One some time next year. The series is co-produced by Lookout Point, Lydia Dean Pilcher and Aradhana Seth and BBC's Mona Qureshi.
