Actor Arjun Das, who played the villain in Karthi’s Kaithi (2019), has been signed as a replacement for Anthony Varghese in Vijay’s upcoming Tamil film which is tentatively titled Thalapathy 64.
Anthony Varghese was originally signed to play one of the antagonists alongside Vijay Sethupathi. However, he opted out of the project due to his commitments.
After impressing critics and audiences alike with his performance in Kaithi, actor Arjun Das was eventually signed as a replacement for Anthony Varghese.
Interestingly, Thalapathy 64 director Lokesh Kanagaraj had launched Arjun in Kaithi. Kanagaraj revealed that he felt Arjun would be apt for Anthony’s role in this project.
It is rumoured that the film will feature Vijay in the role of a college professor and will have a college backdrop for a major part of the story. It’ll be the first time Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi will be seen sharing screen space.
Malavika Mohanan has been signed to play the leading lady while Antony Varghese and Shanthanu Bhagyaraj have been signed to play key roles. The film may feature another leading lady. However, the makers are yet to reveal who has been signed to play the second heroine.
Meanwhile, Vijay was last seen on screen in Atlee directed Bigil (2019). The film, which has emerged as the biggest Tamil grosser of the year, featured Vijay in the roles of a gangster and a coach of a women’s football team.
