Dhurala trailer: Dirty game of politics takes over family relations

The Sameer Vidwans film centers around acquiring politicial power in a village.

Marathi cinema has seen films based on state politics in the form of Sinhasan (1979) and Zenda (2010). Director Sameer Vidwans’s Dhurala also appeared to be one from its teaser. But the trailer of the film reveals that the story revolves around the Gram Panchayat elections in a Maharashtra village.

Although these elections aren’t as big as state elections, it still has all the drama and murkiness that goes with politics. The lust for acquiring politicial power even in a village can not only turn friends into foes but also family members into enemies. This is the theme of Dhurala, going by its trailer.

Ankush Chaudhari plays the current sarpanch (village head) who belongs from a rich and influential family. He is hell-bent in retaining his position as the elections are nearing. His biggest obstacle is Gadhwe (Prasad Oak), who is ready to do anything for power. Chaudhari starts campaigning by employing enthusiastic people, including characters played by Siddharth Jadhav and Amey Wagh.

But as the elections are just around the corner, different members from the family, including Chaudhari’s mother (Alka Kubal), start having political aspirations for the seat of the sarpanch. Will the game of politics ensure breakdown of the family?

Along with an interesting storyline, Dhurala seems to be high on drama and twists. It appears like a perfect film for those who are deeply interested in politics. Interestingly, the film is about to release just after Maharashtra saw a power-hungry game by different parties to form government in the state.

The film also has important characters played by big names like Sonalee Kulkarni and Sai Tamhankar. Umesh Kamat makes a fleeting yet strong appearance in the end.

Produced by Zee Studios, Dhurala will release on 3 January 2020. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you would be keen to watch the film.
