Box office: Pati Patni Aur Woh runs away with the dough as Panipat founders in first week

The Mudassar Aziz comedy wrapped up Rs51.25 crore nett while the more lavishly mounted Panipat, which was released the same day, finished with just Rs25 crore.

The end of the first week of Pati Patni Aur Woh saw Kartik Aaryan's charm work again at the box office. The actor's latest release racked up Rs51.25 crore nett, twice as much as simultaneous release Panipat's Rs25 crore nett, at the end of the week, according to figures from BoxOfficeIndia.com. 

Pati Patni Aur Woh saw a fall in collections on Wednesday, dropping to Rs4.75 crore from Rs5 crore on Tuesday. However, the film held on to breach the Rs50 crore mark in the first week.

According to BoxOfficeIndia.com, the film has seen impressive collections in the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh region as well as the Mumbai territory.

On the other hand, Ashutosh Gowariker's period war epic barely crossed the Rs25 crore mark in the first week. Panipat opened with Rs4 crore last Friday before improving on the weekend (Rs6 crore on Saturday, Rs7.25 crore on Sunday). However, the weekdays saw a consistent fall in collections with the Arjun Kapoor-Kriti Sanon-led film finishing Thursday with a meagre Rs1.40 crore. This takes the film's total to Rs25.30 crore nett.

The film did enjoy its best collections in Maharashtra. 

The other film in theatres, Commando 3, managed just Rs2.75 crore in its second week, taking its lifetime earnings to Rs31.92 crore.
