The most prominent feature of the trailer of Anik Dutta’s upcoming film Borun Babur Bondhu (2020) is the stellar cast. In fact, there are so many actors that it is difficult to focus of the probable storyline of the film. To add to that, Soumitra Chatterjee, who plays protagonist Borun Babu in the film, almost gets lost in the host of actors.

Borunbabur Bondhu is a modern adaptation of author Ramapada Chowdhury’s story Chhad. In the story, Borun Babu, an aged man, prefers to live in isolation because he cannot really adapt to a lot of apparently modern ideas in the name of degrading values. He is staunch in his ideals and hence, he doesn’t get much attention from his family members.

The scenario changes when Paran Bandopadhyay’s character informs him that a childhood friend of his is going to visit him. It is clear from the excitement of the family members that the anticipated guest is someone of distinguished position. While some of the family members prepare to have their future secured through taking favour from him, others prepare to welcome in a grand way. Even long-distance relatives start to spread the news of the guest’s arrival.

There is a mood of much activity in the entire trailer, amidst which the man of importance, Borun Babu seems to have no clue of what is happening around him. While Borun Babu suddenly becomes important for everybody because of the guest, the trailer doesn’t show much of his reactions to the scenario. However, the trailer reveals a lot more than needed, and perhaps, showing Borun Babu’s reaction would have not left much for the audience.

Debajyoti Mishra's background score is clearly inspired from Satyajit Ray's style of composition. The upcoming film will reveal whether its music has any significance to the connection to Ray's title track of his Feluda movies. On the other hand, it is also apparent that the film is full of entertaining elements as each character seems to have an individual narrative.

Borunbabur Bondhu also features Madhabi Mukherjee, Kaushik Sen, Sreelekha Mitra, Bidipta Chakraborty, Debolina Dutta, Arpita Chatterjee and Ritwick Chakraborty among others.

This year, the panorama section of Kolkata International Film Festival was inaugurated with the screening of Borunbabur Bondhu. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
