The film was announced back in December 2018, post the success of Vada Chennai. While many considered it to be a sequel, the film is an independent plot.
Asuran will star Dhanush, along with Manju Warrier, Prakash Raj and Pasupathy in the supporting roles. The film will also mark the acting debut of director Balaji Sakthivel.
Produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu's V Creations, the film is based on the novel Vekkai by Tamil writer, Poomani.
Dhanush is currently preparing for the release of his second directorial venture, which had been put on hold for the Asuran schedule. A multi-starrer, the film will see the actor take on the dual tasks of acting and direction. In addition to Dhanush, the film also features Nagarjuna.
In addition, the actor also has Gautham Menon's long-delayed Ennai Nokki Paayum Thotta scheduled for release later this year.
