Chhichhore trailer: College friends through thick and thin reunite to help one in need

With a trailer reveal on Friendship Day, the Nitesh Tiwari film takes to the past and the present to tell the tale of gang of friends who first met in college.

Sonal Pandya

Anni, Maya, Sexa, Derek, Acid, Mummy, and Bevda. These are the name of the fast friends that meet as students in college and reunite once again as adults when one of them is grievously injured in hospital.

After Dangal (2016), filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari returns with a tale of friendship (whose trailer has been unveiled on Friendship Day, 4 August). A group of misfits, they get to know one another as they live in college hostel and delight in playing pranks on one another. They are plenty of laughs and we are invariably reminded of two Aamir Khan films during the Chhichhore trailer - 3 Idiots (2009) and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992).

The former reminds us of the college and hostel life, while the aspect of sports competition always brings up the Mansoor Khan film in Hindi cinema.

Sushant Singh Rajput is Anni, who falls for the talented Maya (Shraddha Kapoor), the only girl in the group. Varun Sharma is Sexa, Tahir Raj Bhasin is Derek, and Naveen Polishetty, Tushar Pandey and Saharsh Kumar Shukla complete out the group as Acid, Mummy and Bevda respectively. Prateik Babbar plays the antagonist to the friends as Raggie, the seemingly privileged athlete who looks down on the friends.

While the sepia-tinted trailer doesn't give away much plot, it seemed like we will be steeped in nostalgia for this one. The scenes of the past are likely set in the 1990s and the group as older versions takes place in the present. Consider our curiosity peaked!

Chhichhore, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios, moves to 6 September to avoid a clash with another Shraddha Kapoor film, Saaho (2019), starring Prabhas.
