The production house brings back Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi, from their last film, Luka Chuppi (2019), for Mimi. They will be reunited with their Luka Chuppi (2019) director Laxman Utekar on the project. Utekar replaces Amar Kaushik who was previously announced on the project last year.

The teaser image released by the producers shows the hand of an Indian woman handing over a baby to an American woman. The Marathi film, directed by Samruddhi Porey, followed the story of a woman, Yashoda (Urmila Kanitkar), from a village in Maharashtra who is a surrogate for an American woman, Mary (Stacy Bee).
When there are complications in the pregnancy, Mary departs, leaving Yashoda to raise the child. However, she returns a few years later, wanting a claim on her son, leading to a legal battle between the two women.
This is the second film in recent times to revolve around surrogacy, after Dharma Productions' Good News (2019) with Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani. Recently, the Lok Sabha passed a law to ban commercial surrogacy in the country, and limit it to it to infertile married couples only.
In the past, Hindi films like Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2001) and Filhaal (2002) also looked at surrogacy.
