Director Jagan Shetty’s space drama Mission Mangal (2019) had an excellent second week at the Indian box office. Starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan, the film made Rs47.90 crore in this period, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
This is the third best second week number this year after Kabir Singh (2019) and Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019). Mission Mangal has so far made nearly Rs173 crore. As per trade sources, the film is made at a budget of around Rs100 crore.
It will be interesting to see if the film reaches Rs200 crore. It will mostly get affected by the release of big-budget action film Saaho (2019) today. But even if Mission Mangal doesn’t reach that number, the film is already a success.
Meanwhile, the John Abraham-starrer Batla House (2019) performed decently in its second week where it made Rs23.55 crore. The grand total of the film currently is Rs83.05 crore. It has become John’s highest solo earner ever. The record was previously held by Milap Zaveri’s Satyameva Jayate (2018) whose lifetime business was Rs79.61 crore.
Directed by Nikkhil Advani, Batla House has also helped John regain his position at the box office since his last film Romeo Akbar Walter (2019) could manage a lifetime business of only Rs38.88 crore.
