Parambrata Chatterjee and Greentouch Entertainment have shared the official poster of Sayantan Ghosal’s upcoming venture Satyanweshi Byomkesh online.
Satyanweshi Byomkesh features popular actor-director Chatterjee playing the iconic Bengali sleuth Byomkesh Bakshi for the first time while Rudranil Ghosh plays Bakshi’s companion and confidant Ajit.
In the poster, loaded with fiery red, Bakshi (Chatterjee) is featured holding a gun while Ajit can be seen looking from a distance. The poster is filled with imagery of war, including fighter planes, cannons, bombings, and an electrified border fence, suggesting that the story, inspired by Saradindu Bandyopadhyay’s Mognomainak, is set in the backdrop of a war that touched Kolkata.
Satyanweshi Byomkesh also features Gargee Roy Chowdhury and Suprobhat Das in important roles. Filmmaker, actor and singer Anjan Dutt is the screenplay writer and creative adviser of this venture.
Dutt had earlier said the film attempts to present Byomkesh Bakshi in a modern avatar while retaining some of his quintessential traits. It will be interesting to see how Dutt and Ghosal have managed to do that.
Dutt himself directed Byomkesh O Agniban (2017), from the Byomkesh series, featuring Jisshu Sengupta as the satyanweshi, or seeker of truth. He withdrew from further Byomkesh projects as many stories were being adapted for film, television and digital platforms. However, when Dutt handed over the copyright of his scripts to Greentouch Entertainment, he was asked to continue to handle the scripts he had developed for so many years.
Satyanweshi Byomkesh will be released during Puja, in the month of October.
