Dream Girl song 'Dhagala Lagali': Riteish Deshmukh, Ayushmann Khurrana, Nushrat Bharucha bring alive the iconic reprisal

Composed by Meet Bros, the song is sung by the composers along with Mika Singh and Jyotica Tangri.

Trust Ayushmann Khurrana to break tradition from the usual Punjabi promotional tracks to a Marathi one. But the makers of Dream Girl (2019) have not departed too far from the norm by picking up one of the more iconic Marathi dance numbers in the Dada Kondke hit 'Dhagala Lagali Kala' from the Marathi film, Bot Lavin Tithe Gudgulya (1978).

Marathi song ‘Dhagala Lagli Kala’ to be recreated in Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl

The remix is sung by Meet Bros, with Mika Singh and Jyotica Tangri doing the major part of the singing. The song captures the theme of the Ganesh Chaturthi season, with the backdrop being a celebration at a pandal.

Riteish Deshmukh makes the mandatory guest appearance as he leads the duo of Ayushmann Khurrana's Pooja and Nushrat Bharucha into the song. However, Deshmukh remains in the backdrop with Khurrana taking the lead on this one.

The song takes off from the signature riff of 'Themb Themb' that has now become familiar to anyone who has lived in Mumbai, to shift into the new-age lyrics by Kumaar. Mika Singh does a good job of pulling off the Marathi-mix lingo in the lyrics, and comes across as convincing.

The composition focusses on the traditional beats of the Nashik dhol style percussion, but adds a touch of electronica to the mix. The interlude of the electronic rhythms before the arrival of the signature call 'Dhagala Lagali' pops out in the track.

Initially a double meaning song, as expected from Dada Kondke, the composers have worked their way around it using the new lyrics from Kumaar. The song certainly brings on the element of fun and is very much an earworm like the original was.

Dream Girl is directed by Raaj Shandilyaa, and will release in theatres on 13 September 2019. Watch the song below and let us know how keen you are to watch this film.
