Box office: Mission Mangal, Batla House make Rs125 crore and Rs59.60 crore in first week

No Akshay Kumar film has ever reached Rs200 crore in India. Will the space drama be the first one to do that?

Director Jagan Shakti’s multi-starrer Mission Mangal (2019) has completed its extended first week on a good note. The film, starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, and Sonakshi Sinha has made Rs125 crore in the first eight days, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Mission Mangal succeeded in passing the first Monday test by amassing Rs8.50 crore in the day. But from here onwards, the numbers went slightly down and came to Rs6 crore yesterday, the last day of its extended first week.

But the film has still made enough money to be called a hit. As per trade sources, it is made at a cost of Rs100 crore and has already passed that amount by now. Plus, its run at the box office is far from over.

Strangely, no Akshay film has ever touched the Rs200 crore mark when his contemporaries have crossed that number quite a few times. His last film Kesari (2019) was the first one to cross Rs150 mark. We need to wait and watch if Mission Mangal stands any chance of scoring a double century.

Meanwhile, the John Abraham-starrer Batla House (2019) has managed decent numbers in its extended first week. The Nikkhil Advani film had clashed with Mission Mangal on 15 August. It has earned Rs59.50 crore in the first eight days.

As per trade sources, it is made at a budget of Rs60 crore. It needs to earn good numbers in the second weekend and hold well in the following weekdays in order to be considered successful.

No Hindi film releasing today will likely prove beneficial for both Mission Mangal and Batla House.
